Roads to Kai Tak being improved
Steps are being taken to minimize traffic jams.
The government is undertaking projects to enable the road network to cope with additional traffic brought by the opening of the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal in 2013. Among these projects are the completion of a new road between the cruise terminal and Kowloon Bay, and modification works on some road junctions in Kowloon Bay.
Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So said the Civil Engineering & Development Department is now completing engineering works before the terminal opens.
"The government is also planning the next stage of road network development, with a view to enabling the vehicles leaving the cruise terminal to bypass Kowloon Bay and go directly to Kowloon West," he said.
The government has also ordered tour operators to make arrangements in advance to avoid adding to traffic during peak hours and to ensure that cruise passengers disembark in an orderly manner. The government also plans to provide public transport services to facilitate public access to the cruise terminal.
