Government seizes almost $7m worth of smuggled goods

Two river trade vessels destined for Thailand and Kenya just got busted.

According to a release, customs officers have seized $6.8 million worth of unmanifested cargo in two smuggling cases.

Officers inspected a container on a river trade vessel destined for Thailand on November 16, declared to contain bathtubs and crafts. They found contraband including 310,000 aphrodisiac pills and Chinese medication, 500 cans of refrigerant suspected to be ozone-depleting substances, 498 crossbows, 50,000 counterfeit vehicle parts with false trade descriptions and 10,000 illicit cigarettes.

Meanwhile, officers checked a container from another river trade vessel destined for Kenya, declared to contain lace and tableware boxes. They found 800 unmanifested television sets bearing forged trademarks or false trade origin descriptions.

Investigations are continuing.
