“Ganbei!” to Jackie Chan Moutai
But does it have a kick like its namesake?
Hong Kong son and international action star Jackie Chan has lent his famous name to a maotai or baiju named "Jackie Chan Moutai." The liquor, launched recently in Beijing, is being produced by Kweichow Moutai Company.
It will become available later this month in China and will then be promoted in Hong Kong, the rest of Asia, the USA and Europe.
"This is the first time for Moutai to launch a product named after a celebrity, and I hope my reputation abroad could help Moutai expand in the international market," Chan said.
The new brand aims to profit from mainland China’s booming liquor market. It is being produced in Guizhou province, southwest China.
Kweichow Moutai commands 30% of the baiju market. It is the second leading baiju brand.
Chan was born in Hong Kong in 1954 and has since become a cinematic and cultural icon in Hong Kong and the rest of the Chinese-speaking world.
