Sunny Optical camera module shipment surge 27%

But analysts are not impressed.

According to Maybank Kim Eng, Sunny Optical released its handset camera module and handset lens sets shipments for November after the market close.

Handset lens sets shipment -25% YoY / +35% MoM to 3.1m (net units), above our expectation of 2.8m. Of which, 5 mega-pixels or above shipment for Nov increased by 96% MoM.

We maintain our view that the 5 mega-pixels ( and above) handset lens sets shipment will continue on the uptrend due to the rising demand for the smartphone vendor customers.

Handset camera module shipment increased +27% YoY / -7% MoM to 8.8m (net units), slightly below our expectation of 9.4m. The monthly decrease of the handset camera module shipment was mainly due to lower-than-expected demand of the 2 mega-pixel handset camera module.

Demand for 5 mega pixel handset camera module remains solid. The proportion of 5 mega pixels or above shipment stabilized at 30% in Nov vs. Oct (22% in 1H12) while 8 mega-pixels accounted for 9% of the total shipment and 14 mega-pixels shipment accounted for 2%.
