
Unemployment dips to 2.8% in February-April
Higher employment in the education sector kept the job market tight.
Unemployment levels in Hong Kong dipped marginally from 2.9% in January-March to 2.8% in February to April brought about by higher employment in the education sector.
The level represents the lowest in more than 20 years, according to secretary for labour and welfare Dr Law Chi-kwong. The unemployment level translates to a total number of 112,900 unemployed persons.

Jobless rates also fell in the finance and tourism sectors amidst a continued recovery in inbound tourism.

The underemployment rate remained unchanged at 1% which translates to 41,100 Hong Kongers.
"The labour market tightened further in February - April 2018 on the back of robust economic conditions,” Law said. “Overall labour market conditions will likely remain tight in the near term amidst the prevailing positive economic environment.”
