
Nearly 4 in 5 employees mull overseas work for career growth
67% said they would do so for a higher salary.
Employees are becoming more open towards relocating overseas for better opportunities, according to a survey by HR consulting firm Randstad. The Workmonitor 2019 Q3 results showed 78% would consider moving to another market for better career growth and work-life balance, while more than half (67%) would do so for a higher salary.
Majority (77%) of respondents also expressed willingness to go on overseas work trips and 79% are open to working with people from other cultural backgrounds, with 82% thinking it is a good idea for employers to hire foreigners if the local talent pool lacks experience for the position.
Hong Kong has maintained its attractiveness as a regional business hub to expats despite ongoing protests, Randstad Hong Kong managing director Natalie Sun explained.
The same survey revealed that 51% are still satisfied with their current jobs, whilste 39% are neither satisfied nor dissatisfied, and 9% are unhappy.
Less than half (21%) changed employers within the last six months, 25% are applying or looking for new positions, and 38% are willing to leave their current positions for better ones.
