Hong Kong jobseekers less likely than Singaporeans to hunt for overseas jobs
They are more content with local employment opportunities.
Hong Kongers seeking employment opportunities are less likely to consider overseas jobs than candidates in most regional markets, according to a survey from HR consultant Hays, attesting to the quality of jobs in the SAR.

Nearly three quarters (74%) of candidates admitted that they are currently looking for job opportunities overseas which is less than Singapore (86%), China (85%) and Japan (76%) but more than Malaysia (68%).
In fact, around 6% of candidates admitted that they are confining their job search just to Hong Kong whilst 20% expressed openness to an opportunity overseas if told about a suitable role.
“The results are a double edged sword – on the one hand Hong Kong professionals appear more interested in carving out their career at home, which is good news for employers,” Dean Stallard, managing director of Hays Greater Bay Area said in a statement. “Hong Kong is a truly international territory and a great place to make your mark no matter where you are from.”
However, candidates should also note that going overseas can unlock career progression opportunities that may not exist in the homeland especially since the recruitment market in Asia is a ‘lot more fluid and international in flavour.’
“By adding the international job market to the mix, career savvy candidates in Hong Kong actively looking for a role can also better evaluate locally based jobs in terms of the experience, salary and benefits an employer is offering,” added Stallard.
