Hong Kong graduates urged to return to homeland

Pursue you careers here, says Sec Eddie Ng.

According to a release, Secretary for Education Eddie Ng reminded students studying in London that Hong Kong is not only their home, but also a dynamic city full of opportunities for young people. He invited them to return to Hong Kong to pursue their careers upon completing their overseas studies.

Mr Ng is promoting Hong Kong's education reform and policies, and its role as a regional education hub, at the Education World Forum in London, where he will deliver a keynote speech.

He took part in the forum's opening, and in debates led by education pioneers, including the Organisation for Economic Co-operation & Development's Programme for International Student Assessment head Andreas Schleicher.

He was also invited to a British Council roundtable lunch to exchange views with UK university representatives, on topics including Hong Kong's education reform and the '334' academic structure, teacher training and the development of higher and international education, as well as the Qualifications Framework.

Mr Ng then met and briefed about 100 Hong Kong business executives and students on the recently announced Policy Address and the latest education developments in Hong Kong, at a talk arranged by the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office in London and the UK-based Hong Kong Association.

He told students the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education qualification had gained worldwide recognition and enabled Hong Kong students to pursue further studies and research opportunities overseas. He responded to their questions on education and career development, as well as the policy that school-sponsoring bodies and schools had been allowed to decide, on their own, whether and how to teach moral and national education.
