Hong Kong is the 15th best place for expats

It trails behind Singapore in economic stability and work-life balance.

Whilst Singapore ranks in the top five countries for expats, Hong Kong fell down to 15th place ranking, HSBC revealed in their annual survey.

The survey evaluates factors that expats will face, using three broad sections that cover daily living, economic stability and general success in terms of career path, and even the ease or lack thereof their children might settle in.

The overall ranking in Hong Kong’s daily living category, which measures aspects such as quality of life, physical and mental wellbeing, fulfillment, welcoming communities, and political stability, rises up to 20th place. Meanwhile, Singapore takes the sixth spot, pulled up by its third in political stability and sixth in quality of life.

The aspiring category, on the other hand, ranks the general income, disposable income, economic stability, career progression, reaching potential, and work and life balance. Despite Hong Kong’s generally higher rankings in this category as compared with Singapore, the former is dragged down by its 32nd place in work-life balance as well as its 16th place in economic stability. On the other hand, Singapore received 30th and 7th places for them respectively.

As for the considerations towards the children expats might have, Singapore hold the crown, with generally better rankings than Hong Kong in each individual subsection and even taking up first place in schooling.
