Labor chief calls for vetting apps resumption
Secretary Matthew Cheung appeals that such scheme be resumed as soon as possible.
According to a release, Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung urges employee members of the Labour Advisory Board to resume vetting applications under the Supplementary Labour Scheme.
Speaking to the media today, Mr Cheung said stopping application vetting will have tremendous implications on the operation of the imported labour scheme, particularly given the fact most imported labourers work at homes for the elderly and disabled.
“They are mostly care workers, so there is a great need for them. I would appeal to employee members to resume vetting the applications as quickly as possible in the public interest,” he said, adding the Labour Department is liaising with the Immigration Department to address board members' concerns.
