Government has no target for 5-day work week implementation
Although companies with a five-day work week increased from 36.5% in 2006 to 61.5% in 2010.
According to a release, although Labour Department survey findings have revealed a rising trend of organisations adopting a five-day work week, the Government has not set a target for its implementation.
In a written response to an enquiry from Legislator Frederick Fung, Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung said the Labour Department survey findings show the percentage of organisations adopting a five-day work week increased from 36.5% in 2006 to 61.5% in 2010.
He said the Government has not set a target for the measure's implementation, but it has implemented the five-day week initiative in phases since July 2006.
With the Labour Department’s promotion and publicity, the message is gradually filtering through to different trades and there is a rising trend of organisations adopting a five-day work week, he said.
