Service activities net output increased 3.9% in 3Q11

Net output in the import and export, wholesale and retail trades sector rose 4.8% in real terms.

According to a release, releasing the preliminary figures of chain volume measures of Gross Domestic Product by economic activity for the third quarter, the Census & Statistics Department said Hong Kong's net output in all the service activities taken together rose 3.9% in real terms.

This compares with 5.2% in the second quarter.

Net output in the import and export, wholesale and retail trades sector rose 4.8% in real terms, moderating from the 7% increase in the second quarter. This was mainly due to the moderation in merchandise trade amid the worsening global environment.

Net output in the financing and insurance sector grew by 8.7% in real terms from a year earlier, following the 13.2% rise in the second quarter.
