Registration for cash payout scheme commences

Those that digitally applied for the scheme before end-June will receive the cash by 8 July.

The registration for the Cash Payout Scheme opened on 21 June, where about 2 million people submitted electronic registrations through the 21 banks participating in the scheme, and around 8,000 submitted electronic forms through the Hongkong Post website, a press release revealed.

In addition, a special arrangement has been made under which around 1,000 bank branches and 120 post offices over the territory are required to open from 9am to 5pm to facilitate the submission of paper registration forms.

Registration by paper form will be conducted by three batches according to date of birth.

Individuals may put completed paper registration forms into drop-in boxes at banks or post offices or mail them to GPO Box No. 182020.

The Government spokesman said that people registered in the first two weeks will receive payment or notification for cheque collection simultaneously from around 20 July.

The Government spokesman also urges applicants to register electronically through banks for them to receive their payment faster. For electronic registrations submitted through banks before end-June, payment will be deposited simultaneously into the bank accounts specified by the registrants from around 8 July. For electronic registrations submitted on or after 1 July, registrants will receive payment around one week after registration.

Registration for the scheme is open until 31 December 2021. The scheme was first announced in the Hong Kong Government’s latest budget, where it pledged to give out $10,000 to each eligible citizen.
