
January exports up 44.6%
Price of total exports decreased 0.4%.
The volume of Hong Kong’s total exports of goods in January rose 44.6%, whilst imports climbed 37.2% compared to the same month in 2020, the Census and Statistics Development (C&SD) reported.
Total exports and imports in the three-month period ending January 2021 increased by 18.7% and 17.3%, respectively, compared to the same period in the previous year.
In comparison to the preceding three-month period on a seasonally adjusted basis, exports and imports each rose 9.1% and 10.3%.
Further, the price of total exports of goods decreased by 0.4%, whilst prices of imports were up by 0.5%.
An increase of 71.4% was recorded for the total export volume to Taiwan in January 2021 against January 2020.
The C&SD also reported double-digit increases were seen in the total export volume to Vietnam (67.4%), Mainland China (59.3%), United States (20.9%), and Japan (20.3%).
Over the same period, total export prices to Vietnam decreased 4.1%. It was also down by 1.3% in Japan, 0.5% in the United States, and 0.2% in Mainland China. Total export prices, meanwhile, increased 0.8% in Taiwan.
As for the total imports, Taiwan also saw an increase in volume of around 55% over the same period. Total import volume also climbed 43.5% in Mainland China, 37.7% in Japan, 33.9% in Korea, and 31.9% Singapore.
Import prices increased in 5% in Korea, 3.9% in Taiwan, 1.9% in Singapore, and 1.2% in Japan. Mainland China’s import price, on the other hand, dropped 2%.
