Govt seeks approval to submit revised interim funding motion
The government will submit a revised motion seeking a $60 billion interim funding allocation for initial expenditure.
Secretary for Financial Services & the Treasury Prof. KC Chan said he was sad to see legislators reject the interim funding allocation earlier. He noted it is a long-standing and essential mechanism to maintain Government services, and said the Government will send a letter to the Legislative Council President for approval to submit a revised motion next Wednesday.
He said interim funding ensures the Government's normal operation before the Budget is approved, and gives lawmakers time to examine the measures proposed in the Budget. Their action today was irresponsible and unnecessary, he said, and urged them to endorse the motion next Wednesday in the interest of the public.
Prof KC Chan said the legislators’ opinions of revised Budget measures have nothing to do with the $60 billion interim funding allocation.
