
Government intensifies rules for tariff hikes
The 2 big power companies better be fair.
According to a release, Secretary for the Environment KS Wong says the Government will take gate-keeping measures to ensure tariff increases by Hong Kong's two power companies are reasonable and balanced.
Speaking to the media today, Mr Wong said energy prices have an impact on the power companies, adding inflation may not be directly linked.
He said the Government is discussing tariff increases with them, and he hopes to announce the results next week.
He reiterated the Government attaches great importance to better air quality.
“Cleaner air is really our top priority in terms of environmental policy. We would like to have a stronger, more effective policy on this for public health. So we will probably launch a new initiative very soon. Probably the Chief Executive will announce something in his policy address.”
