
Exports weather through trade woes after rising 12.9% in May
Trade to the Mainland and Japan registered double-digit growth.
Despite concerns that strained economic relations between the two largest superpowers will impact trade in the nearby SAR, Hong Kong’s total exports maintained its strong performance after rising 12.9% YoY in May.

Double-digit increases were recorded for total export volume to the Mainland at 15.6%, according to the Census & Statistics Department. Trade activities to Japan and the US also strengthened in May at 10.3% and 9.1% respectively.
However, total export volume to India and Taiwan crashed 21.4% and 2% respectively over the same period.
Import volume also rose 13.5% in May with Korea and Taiwan leading the pack at 33.6% and 21.2% respectively. Imports from Singapore, the Mainland and Japan also increased 18.2%, 15.2% and 6.9% respectively.
