Anna Wu heads Competition Commission
Thirteen other persons appointed to commission.
The commission is an independent statutory body tasked with investigating competition-related complaints, and bringing public enforcement action before the Competition Tribunal.
The Legislative Council passed the Competition Ordinance on June 14, 2012 to provide a legal framework to curb anti-competitive conduct, with the aim of fostering fair and free competition. Provisions on the commission's establishment and operation came into effect on January 18.
The commission will prepare regulatory guidelines, promote public education and understanding of the ordinance and competition's benefits, and advise the government on competition matters.
The ordinance will be implemented in phases to allow for people to become familiar with the new legal requirements, and make necessary adjustments.
Members of the commission include Chan Kwok-wai, Agnes Chan, Thomas Cheng, Prof Leonard Cheng, Michael Hui, Kwok Kwok-chuen, Larry Kwok, Miranda Kwok, Andrew Leung, Anthony William Seeto, Prof Tsang Shu-ki, Gilly Wong and Simon Wong.
